If you’re looking for a crossover SUV with an expansive range of configurations and options, check out the Audi Q5, slated for release in 2009. According to the manufacturer, this medium-sized 4×4 vehicle, designed to fit between the Audi’s Q7 and Q3 SUVs, will offer a choice between gas, turbo diesel or hybrid powertrains. You should also be able to choose from a variety of transmissions and trim levels, along with the latest advances in navigation and entertainment technologies.

The Audi Q5 uses the same advanced Modular Longitudinal Platform (MLP) that has received rave reviews in the A5 sedan. Five powertrain options should be available, including Audi’s venerable 2.0-liter turbo, 3.0-liter turbo diesel and a hybrid that would offer both reduced emissions and increased gas mileage. Audi is expected to offer a choice of the 7-speed S-Tronic Direct-Shift gearbox or the same Tiptronic automatic transmission used in several Porsche models, with Audi’s 4×4 Quattro drive system standard.
Audi’s Multi-Media Interface (MMI), which combines GPS navigation, mobile communications and wide-screen entertainment, should be available in the Q5 as well. With this option, you would be able to integrate your iPod, MP3 player, Bluetooth, GSM cell phone and satellite radio into the vehicle. A navigation system with the ability to render 3-D images for terrain and landmarks is another compelling innovation.
